Vidlin Rowing Club welcomes new members of any age.

No previous experience is necessary. We aim to race in regattas but also provide for members who only row for recreation or exercise in our own voe. We welcome anyone who wants to row- you do not have to race!

2009 SEASON REPORT

Prizegiving We hosted the prizegiving in September. It was well attended and it was great to see our open women claim their first place trophy for the Championships.

JUNIORS: The juniors continue to improve their skills. We had a mini event in Nesting where they were complimented on their timing. Any bairn who is interested and able to hold an oar will be welcome to row with the juniors. We do not have a lower age limit as.

YOUTH TEAMS: Our under 16 girls did very well, continuing to strengthen and improve. They rowed as under21`s several times and even with only 5 rowers! They came 5th in the league.  The under 16 boys came on in both confidence and ability gaining 4th place in the league and ending the season by rowing as under 21`s as well.  Any more under 21 lasses and boys out there?

WOMEN:

The women`s team took a starring role. They trained hard and their performance showed it as they steadily improved their placing through the season till they won the Championships. They have moved up from 6th place in the league to 4th. The vet women also managed to move up a place in the league to 6th.

MEN: We did not have an open men’s team in 2008 but last year our men achieved 6th place in the league. The veteran men made 7th place -  an excellent result considering many rowed as Open men as well.

Conclusion: Getting new shirts and club jackets in 2009 was a great boost to morale. Again,  thanks to our sponsors John Herculeson, John Jacobs and Grading Systems and many individuals in the Vidlin community for contributions. Our rowers are full of enthusiasm and ready to go for another season.  We need a lot of people in order to field teams all season – six people to a category is not enough when holidays and other commitments come into play. We welcome anyone who wants to row but are really keen to recruit under 21 men and women.

So, if you can join, or know someone you can encourage to join – do it!

2010 SEASON

At our AGM Paul Bendix was appointed treasurer and Jamie Jennings joined the committee to represent the younger member’s interests. We welcome them and thank them for their interest and commitment.

SYRA have not yet held their pre-season meeting so regatta dates are still tentative. Vidlin regatta, however, is on 12th of JUNE so break out the bunting!

First rowing will be on Tuesday 20th April. Practice times will be advertised in the shop, on the marina notice board and on our website www.vidlinrowingclub.org.uk  and may change to meet changing needs. Our website is updated regularly during the season so check it out.

Note: we must have written permission from a parent or guardian before taking under  16`s in the yoal.
